WORKING OF MIRACLES

“To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:” — 1 Corinthians 12:10 (KJV)

The natural intelligence of man has been demonstrated over centuries, from the invention of submarines to airplanes, mobile phones, nanotechnology, etc.

However, there are events in history that have exceeded human imagination; one of such events is Jonah in the belly of a fish for three days and three nights. Scientifically, this event,  amongst many others cannot be explained, hence, it can only be a miracle.

At the core of the Christian faith are miracles; Christianity itself is rooted in the miraculous events surrounding Jesus’s death and resurrection. Jesus’ earthly ministry was replete with miracles, and He emphasized that those signs will follow all who believe (Mark 16:17-18). He is talking about you and I!

The book of Acts documents the exploits of the followers of Jesus. Peter at the beautiful gate performed an outstanding miracle on a man who had been lame from birth (Acts 3:2-11).  He explained that the miracle was done through faith in the name of Jesus (Acts 3:16). He also made it clear that the miracle was not a result of his personal holiness or power (Acts 3:12). Our faith in what Jesus has done is what qualifies us to work miracles.

Apostle Paul explained that one of the demonstrations of the Holy Spirit in us is the working of miracles (1 Corinthians 12:10). Just as you can, speak in tongues, interpret tongues, prophecy, etc, He explains that we can work miracles by the same Spirit. There are no limitations to the believers when it comes to miracles. God performed special miracles through Paul, so much so that handkerchiefs were taken from his body to heal the sick and cast out devils (Acts 19:11-12).

Jesus demonstrated mentorship in the miraculous when he told Peter to join him in walking on water (Matthew 14:26-29). What a lesson! Jesus was not concerned with being the only one to walk on water; rather, He wanted his students to join Him. This shows that Jesus wants you to walk in the miraculous,  it is available to all believers today.

Dear believer, you can believe God for miracles in your own life and work miracles for the benefit of others today. What do you believe God can do through you? Faith in the name of Jesus is more than enough. We all are miracle workers! We are expected to live supernaturally and also expect miracles as we witness the Gospel (Mark 16:17-20).
