“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:” — I Corinthians 12:7 NKJV
Welcome to the 12th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, we focused on recognising and growing in our spiritual gifts, understanding their role in service, and growing in the knowledge of our limitless abilities by God’s Spirit.
We began the week by learning about the purpose of spiritual gifts – to serve others (1 Corinthians 12:7). God equips each believer with spiritual gifts not for self-glorification, but for the benefit of the church (Matthew 4:3-4; 14:16-21). Just as a body thrives when all its parts function together, so does the church when each member faithfully exercises their gifts (Ephesians 4:16). When we neglect these gifts, we hinder growth and the miraculous in the church, but when we use them in service, we align with God’s plan to build His body and bring glory to His name (1 Peter 4:10-11).
On Tuesday, we learnt how to receive spiritual gifts. The first step is being born again because it is the Holy Spirit who gives spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4). While these gifts are readily available (1 Corinthians 12:7), we must approach them with earnest desire and expectation (1 Corinthians 7:31). Have faith that if God’s Word says these gifts are for all believers, they are for you too. Your awareness and receptiveness are very important, as unbelief or dishonour can limit the flow of the supernatural through you (2 Timothy 1:6).
Wednesday’s devotional focused on growing in the supernatural. Just as building physical strength requires consistent effort, growing in spiritual gifts requires regular practice and persistence (1 Timothy 4:7). Many believers struggle with consistency, especially when results aren’t immediate, but growth in the supernatural requires faith and perseverance. The supernatural is not reserved for a select few; it is the inheritance of every believer (Mark 16:17-18). God wants you to walk in the supernatural, but you must be willing to persist, even when you don’t see immediate results. The more you step out in faith, the more you will grow in the supernatural.
Thursday’s article taught us about the role of spiritual gifts in evangelism. We learnt that spiritual gifts aren’t primarily for meeting our temporary needs but for pointing others to Christ and confirming the truth of the gospel (Acts 2:33). In Mark 16:16-18, Jesus commissioned His disciples to preach the good news and assured them that signs would accompany their message. Miraculous signs during evangelism are meant to direct others to Christ. As you share the gospel, trust in God’s power within you and expect Him to confirm His Word through signs and wonders (Mark 16:20).
On Friday, we learnt that spiritual gifts are different manifestations of the same Holy Spirit, available to every believer (1 Corinthians 12:4). At salvation, we receive the Spirit, who grants us access to various gifts, all meant to complement each other. The Spirit works through us as needed, according to God’s will. Each believer has the ability to manifest different gifts, so don’t limit yourself. Be ready to heal, prophesy, or offer words of knowledge as the need arises.
Dear believer, you are God’s dwelling place, and with the Holy Spirit within you, all the possibilities of God are available to you. Believe this, walk boldly, and signs will follow (Mark 16:17-18).
