UTTER HELPLESSNESS; SOVEREIGN INTERVENTION

“If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9 (NKJV)

Imagine standing before the gates of a magnificent palace, where a wise and generous king has prepared a great feast. You could perceive the rich aroma of sumptuous delicacies as well as melodious sounds. You really do admire the king’s goodness, speak highly of him, and even try to follow his principles. Yet, as you step forward to enter, the guards stop you. They ask for one thing =  your invitation/access card. No matter how much you praise the king or strive to live by his ways, without the invitation, you cannot join the feast.

This was the reality of Cornelius, the Roman centurion. He was upright, prayerful, and charitable, yet he still needed salvation (Acts 10:1-6). No matter how good a person may be, salvation does not come by deeds but by faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). Like Cornelius, you must hear the Gospel, believe in Christ’s sacrifice, and trust that His death and resurrection secured eternal life for you (John 3:16).

Saving faith means recognizing that Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6). Many try to find alternatives, relying on morality, religious rituals, or personal efforts. But the truth remains: salvation is found in Christ alone (Acts 4:12). When you place your faith in Him, you receive the gift of eternal life.

This faith also sets you free from sin. The Bible declares that all have sinned, and sin separates you from God (Romans 3:23). But when you believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, you are united with Him. His victory over sin becomes yours, and you are no longer bound by guilt, deception, or the fear of death (Romans 6:23). In Christ, you are born again, made new, and welcomed into a life of freedom.

More than that, saving faith assures you that God, your loving Father, is committed to transforming you daily. He not only saves but also sanctifies, shaping you into His image (Philippians 1:6). Through His Spirit, He leads and strengthens you so that you can live in holiness and walk in His will (Ephesians 1:13-14).

So, do not settle for anyone being “good enough” as their way to salvation. Do not rely on deeds or human effort. The only key to salvation is faith in Jesus Christ. Believe in Him, surrender fully, and walk in the freedom and assurance of eternal life.
