STAY ON THE WORD

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” -Psalms 119:11 NKJV

When you are at school and studying for a test, you do your best to memorise all of the key points in your various classes so that you do not forget anything you have learned. Similarly, when studying the Bible, make sure that you ponder on the words so that you don’t lose what you’ve learned and can apply it in your daily life.

Meditation on God’s word helps us remember it. To accomplish this, we must concentrate on God’s word as we study it. Focusing on God’s word allows us to always recall what the scriptures say about us, especially when we are confronted with difficult situations.

We meditate on the word of God by reciting scriptures over and over again till we can say them subconsciously.  According to Joshua 1:8, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

When we resolve to stay on God’s word, it becomes easier to apply it in our daily lives. We can see from our anchor scripture that keeping God’s word in our hearts helps us to not sin against God. When we fail to keep our thoughts on what God’s word says, we will do the opposite of what it instructs. As a result, it is extremely beneficial for us to constantly ponder on what God’s word says about us and our diverse situations.

Dear believer, take real measures today and forever to stay on God’s word by being more intentional in your Bible study. This is accomplished by reciting the texts you learned and taking notes as you study the Bible. When you pray, pray the word. Keep meditating on it!

Prayer: I go beyond studying the word of God by continually meditating on it. I am intentional in keeping God’s word in my heart. My life will be an expression of God’s word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
