“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
– Philippians 1:6 NKJV
Did your parents ever come to your school after school hours but somehow forgot to pick you up, the very reason they came? What kind of parents will do that? It is funny how some of us think of Jesus in this manner– that somehow He will forget us when He comes back the second time. Some Christians sincerely ask questions like “if Jesus comes now, will I go with Him?” or “how am I sure that I won’t lose this salvation I’ve received?”.
Good news, today’s devotional is the answer you need to your questions, so please pay attention.
First things first, how were you saved? By the sacrifice of Jesus through His death, burial and resurrection of Christ, right? Now, what did you contribute to the sacrifice? The blood or the cross? Nothing. God saved you free of charge. The only thing you contributed was your sin. The Bible says:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV
Secondly, did you initiate the idea of salvation to God? Absolutely no! The Bible tells us about how God predestined us to be in Christ and chose us before the foundations of the world were laid to be holy and without blame before Him in love. In other words, before your greatest ancestors were born, God has already planned for you to be found in Him (Eph 1:1-7).
Think about this, what registration did you do in your biological parents’ home to secure your last name after you were born? None.
When they gave birth to you, they gave you their last name so that you can be identified as belonging to them. In that same vein, God gave you His name by sealing you with His Holy Spirit.
“And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.”
Ephesians 1:13 NLT
The Holy Spirit identifies you as God’s own and He lives in you forever, (John 14:16).
Look, God can fulfil His promise of giving us eternal life. Salvation was His idea and He doesn’t do incomplete projects. He began this good work of salvation and will for a fact complete it. You don’t have to worry about going to heaven with Jesus when He comes back because He is coming for you! He’s got you till the end.
