“For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” — 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 NKJV.

Welcome to the 13th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, we continued our discussion on the gifts of the Spirit by learning to define and understand some of them.We began the week with the gift of tongues—a way to connect with God beyond what the natural mind can express (1 Corinthians 14:14). In the Bible, one of the first and most evident signs of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling was speaking in tongues (Acts 10:45-46, 2:33). Speaking in tongues edifies the believer and, with interpretation, builds up the church (1 Corinthians 14:4).

Tuesday’s devotional focused on the gifts of prophecy and words of knowledge.‎ Prophecy reveals the mind of God concerning a matter and brings edification, encouragement, and comfort to both the church and individual believers (1 Corinthians 14:3, Amos 3:7). Similarly, words of knowledge provide supernatural insight into a situation or a person’s life that could not have been known naturally (John 4:16-18). These gifts, always aligned with the Word of God, help confirm God’s existence and power, especially during evangelism, and work together to strengthen the body of Christ.‎

On Wednesday, we learnt about the gift of discernment of spirits. Because not every spiritual manifestation is from God (Acts 16:16-18), the believer needs to have the ability to discern between the Spirit of God and deceptive spirits (1 John 4:1). The devil is a master of deception, but the gift of discernment enables you to identify false spirits, uncover deceptions, and expel demons. To grow in this gift, build a culture of prayer, because prayer sharpens your spiritual senses and opens you up to see things with the eyes of the Spirit of God.

Thursday’s focus was on the word of wisdom, which is the divine ability to apply knowledge and understanding as inspired by God. As a believer, you can know precise steps to take by the Spirit. It is different from word of knowledge, which makes you aware of a situation, in that it gives you information to navigate through it. God has made His wisdom available to the body of Christ to help us navigate through the difficulties of life and our divine assignments (Acts 6:10, Matthew 10:18-20, Colossians 3:28). As a child of God, the Spirit in you can guide you through every decision. You can perpetually walk in divine wisdom.

We wrapped up the week with the gifts of faith and healing. As flawed humans, our natural response to challenges is doubt and fear; however, the Bible teaches about a supernatural confidence in God’s promises that enables the believer to expect the miraculous (Hebrews 11:1). This gift of faith is not to be confused with saving faith at salvation—it is a gift from God that empowers you to trust Him for the impossible. The gift of healing follows the gift of faith, as both remind us of God’s desire to restore and strengthen His people. Faith and healing are not only for personal benefit but also to encourage and strengthen others in the body of Christ.

Dear believer, it is not God’s desire for these gifts to remain dormant in you (1 Corinthians 1:7). Stir them up and use them to build the church and strengthen fellow believers to the glory of God. The more you step out in faith, the stronger the manifestation through you.Have a wonderful weekend.
