“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.” — 1 Corinthians 12:1 (NKJV)

Welcome to the 11th weekly devotional recap of the year. This week, we learnt about the place of spiritual gifts in the life of a believer.

We began on Monday with a reminder that Christ is our model of possibilities, including the supernatural. During His ministry, He healed the sick, raised the dead, and cast out demons. He empowered us to do even greater works (John 14:12). As promised (Mark 16:17), His disciples performed miracles through His Spirit (Mark 16:20; 6:13). To walk in His power, we must follow His example of obedience, prayer, and passion for God’s purposes. If Jesus did it, so can you!

On Tuesday, we learnt about the importance of understanding the impact of having God’s Spirit within us (1 Corinthians 12:1). Spiritual gifts are abilities given by the Spirit of God to every believer for a purpose, but we can only use them if we know what they are. The same Spirit that believers received at salvation (Ephesians 1:13) enabled the apostles to manifest these gifts—teaching, prophecy, exhortation, healing, and giving, among others (1 Corinthians 12:4-6). Since you have the Holy Spirit, recognise that you carry power that can meet every need.

Wednesday’s devotional emphasized that spiritual gifts are given to serve God and His people (1 Corinthians 12:7). They empower us beyond human ability to know Him and make Him known. Miracles are not the focus; they confirm both the message and the messenger, proving Christ’s resurrection and glory. The purpose of spiritual gifts is not self-promotion but to reveal Christ and advance the gospel. Rather than drawing attention to ourselves, they direct people to God, who glorifies Himself through us (Acts 3:12-16).

Thursday’s article highlighted that spiritual gifts remain relevant today. Despite claims that they were only for the early church and no longer necessary, scripture affirms their necessity in fulfilling God’s mission (1 Corinthians 12:7).Today, believers continue to experience healing, prophecy, and divine wisdom—proof that God still works through His people. Just as He empowered the early church, He empowers us today. Embrace your calling and use these gifts to advance His kingdom.

We ended the week on Friday by learning that spiritual gifts are for all believers (Joel 2:28-29). The same Spirit at work in great ministers today is living in you. Every believer has access to the supernatural workings of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7). You are not lacking! Jesus Himself said that all who believe—not only the apostles or a handful of great men—would perform miracles, heal the sick, and have authority over demons (Mark 16:17). God has made His power available to all who believe, including you. All you need to do is stir it up.

From today, be conscious of the limitless power within you by God’s Spirit and let Him work through you to touch lives and advance His kingdom.

Have a blessed weekend!
