“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” – Philippians 1:21 (NKJV)
Imagine a runner in a long, challenging race. The runner’s focus is singular – reaching the finish line. Everything he does, from pacing to overcoming obstacles, revolves around this goal. Similarly, as believers, our lives have an ultimate destination: to know Christ and to make Him known. Every action, relationship, and endeavour should be directed toward this purpose.
However, in the busyness of life, it’s easy to lose sight of this. Our careers, personal goals, and relationships can sometimes take centre stage and divert our attention from what truly matters. Yet, like the runner who never loses focus on the finish line, we too must remain conscious of our ultimate purpose: knowing Christ and sharing Him with others (Colossians 3:2).
Though we each have unique assignments – some may be teachers, others doctors, lawyers, or creatives – our shared purpose remains constant. Our professions, relationships, and ambitions should reflect Christ and promote His love. Whatever we do, we do all in the name of Jesus, hence, our actions should reflect who we are and our agenda (Colossians 3:17).
As ambassadors for Christ, our daily interactions, work ethics, and personal ambitions must reflect His love and light (2 Corinthians 5:20). But while trying to get through work, relationships, family and every other thing that matters to us, how do we stay aligned with this mission?
The key is making Christ the centre of our thoughts, actions, and decisions. Maintaining a consistent devotional life, seeking God’s guidance, and viewing our relationships and work as avenues to make Him know Him and reflect His glory. When we stay conscious of Christ’s presence, we find that everything we do becomes an opportunity to reflect Him and spread His message. In the end, our life does not consist of the abundance of things we own, nor is it about accumulating success, wealth, or fame (Luke 12:15). Our journey is about reflecting Christ, living for Him, and sharing His love with the world. This is our purpose; our finish line, and the ultimate destination we must always focus on.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” – Hebrews 12:2-3.
Dear Believer, for you to live is Christ and to die is gain. Therefore, run the race with utmost focus and intention. Christ is the ultimate destination.
