The scripture is a compendium of the promises of God to mankind. The promises of God are central to our faith as believers providing assurance, hope and guidance.
One of such promises is seen in the book of Genesis 9. After the flood which wiped out the whole earth had receded and the earth was dry, God promised that he would never again flood the earth to destroy it. He took it further by giving us the rainbow as a sign of his covenant to man. Genesis 10 details the genealogy of Noah’s family. Genesis 11 tells the story of the spread of mankind after the tower of Babel. In this chapter, we are also introduced to the man – Abram, the father of faith.
Similarly, we see the fulfilment of God’s promise being fulfilled in the earthly ministry of Jesus.
Matthew 4 marks an important point in history. It reveals that the prophecy given by the prophet Isaiah many years ago was being fulfilled right before their eyes. Because of God’s faithfulness in keeping his promises, we have salvation through Christ’s coming in the flesh as it is the essence of our Christian walk.
Reflect: Take time to ponder on the promises of God to you
Pray: Thank you Jesus for your countless promises to me.
