Day 24 (Exodus 7-8, Matthew 17:9-18:7)

In our journey of faith, God’s power and authority are continually revealed, both in the extraordinary and the everyday. Like a well-scripted drama, the events in Exodus and the teachings in Matthew offer us insights into the magnitude of God’s power and our responsibility in responding to it. From Moses’ encounters with Pharaoh to Jesus’ instructions to His disciples, we see the importance of obedience, faith, and the readiness to act in accordance with God’s will.

In Exodus 7 and 8, we witness the unfolding of God’s power through the plagues sent upon Egypt. Each plague was not just a display of God’s might, but a direct challenge to Pharaoh’s hardened heart. Despite the clear evidence of God’s authority, Pharaoh chose resistance over submission. This story underscores the importance of heeding God’s word and recognizing His power, which leads to life and freedom.

Transitioning to the New Testament, in Matthew 17:9, after the transfiguration, Jesus instructs His disciples to keep what they had seen to themselves until His resurrection. This directive teaches us about the timing and wisdom of God, emphasizing that there is a season for everything, even in our witness. Matthew 18:7 warns us about the inevitability of offences but also challenges us to be vigilant so as not to be the source of stumbling blocks for others.

God’s word is powerful and purposeful. Our response to it should be marked by obedience and faith. Just as Moses acted in alignment with God’s commands, and as Jesus instructed His disciples with wisdom, we too must be diligent in our walk.

Prayer: Lord, help me to recognize Your power in my life and to respond with faith and obedience. Keep me from being a stumbling block to others and guide my steps in alignment with Your will. Amen.

Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.
